Homeschool Essentials List!

Your homeschool essentials checklist is here! This is it! Well, this is mine and I’m sharing it with you. I hope it’s helpful to you! Keep in mind that my kiddos are little, (10,8, and 6) and we do a lot of gameschooling and play-based learning. So, if it sounds like what we are working with here might work for you, check out the list below! I can remember many times feeling lost in the woods with planning. I wish I had thought to search for a homeschool essentials list long ago. BUT I did not HA! So, now I feel like I have a good handle on what we need and what works for us. Check it below, it’s a free printable for you to use and share!

Homeschool essentials go beyond pencils and paper!

There’s more to think about than just supplies when you’re planning you homeschool year. You want to factor in what unit studies you want to do, what your library has to offer, what field trips you want to do and of course anything that’s required by your state.

Unit studies are easier than they seem to create! Don’t get overwhelmed by the idea of them. Pick a topic that will interest you and your kiddos. Then, look for books, videos, crafts, games or activities, and ways to incorporate the basics, (math, science, reading, writing etc).

Our local library does so much for kiddos that homeschool families can take advantage of. Make sure to check out your library! Call them and ask them what they do to support homeschoolers and what age group they tend to aim their efforts towards. If you don’t have any luck there try local museums and nature centers too.

Art and Music – planning them in

Don’t forget about art and music. It can absolutely be a struggle to fit these in. I don’t know whether it’s about confidence with teaching them or feeling that I just don’t have the time to plan it out. I want whatever we do to have more depth than just finger painting and listening to music. Those things are great, but if I’m going to make time for this, I want to do it well. Two things have been game changers for me in these areas. SQUILT and Outside the Box Creation. These companies are fantastic. They are worth the money and they make it easy. Learn more about them and about our experience with them here – SQUILT (Coming soon, we trying out our first month now!) and Outside the Box Creation.

Homeschool Essentials List – products that we love!

  • Amazon Basics Laminator – inexpensive and easy to use! I’ve had mine for 4 years and love it!
  • Amazon Basics Laminator Sheets – again inexpensive and easy to use. We have only ever used these.
  • Firbon Paper Cutter – this simple but strong paper cutter is great! It cuts through my laminated sheets and I feel comfortable having it out around my littles.
  • FREE PLANNER! – Ok I’m biased, I love it, BUT I made it! It focuses on you and your homeschool. Check it out!
